In Kikai we offer acupuncture sessions in cabinet or at home throughout the island of Mallorca.
Acupuncture treatments are based on energy imbalances, the acupuncturer will select the specific points to stimulate (tone) or sedate. The person receiving the treatment usually stays lying on a stretcher, lying face down or face up. Needles are inserted at selected points to rebalance the body's energy.
Needles remain in the body for up to 30 to 45 minutes, always depending on the person's energy state. During the acupuncture session it is common for the person to fall asleep. Additional treatments to regulate energy flow are also common during the session:
Needles can be stimulated with a very gentle electric current using electroacupuncture.
The "moxa" is made of a weed called an artemis. Moxa can be put at the top end of acupuncture needles (hot needle technique) or closer to the skin, separated by ginger slices. Another application of moxibustion is by turning on the Moxa cigar, keeping it on several centimeters above the skin. Moxa burns to provide penetrating heat. This is called the moxibustion.
Glass suction cups, round and resistant, can be used in which vacuum is created to create suction on top of specific points. This suction, or cupping, stimulates the flow of energy and increases the circulation of the area on which it is applied. If the suction cups remain for a long time they can create bruises that will disappear within a few days. Hot suction cups are not usually applied at very high temperatures to prevent skin lesions.
We also apply electrical acupuncture, or electropuncture (Voll electroacupuncture) and laser acupuncture or laserpuncture
Some people experience some light pain, numbness, or tingling in acupuncture sessions when the needles are inserted. In very rare cases people will feel dizzy or nauseous, which disappears when the needles are removed during acupuncture. There may be a drop of blood when a needle is removed. It can also generate a small drop of blood when removing the needle although it is unusual. Acupuncture has far fewer side effects than the vast majority of Western medications.
Among the main contraindications is pregnancy. You should tell the acupunctur if you are or think you may be pregnant as applying acupuncture at some points can lead to delivery, so some acupuncture points should not be stimulated during pregnancy.
The WHO World Health Organization lists more than 40 health disturbances that can be improved with acupuncture, including natural treatment for anxiety, nerves, migraine, anxiety, tinnitus and pain treatment.
