What is veterinary acupuncture?
Veterinary acupuncture is certainly an alternative that can help animals alleviate or overcome some ailments. It is based on the same principles as human acupuncture, and consists of placing small needles at different specific points of the animal's body to achieve a decrease in discomfort and an increase in endorphins, which will produce a well-being effect. In Kikai we use it with dogs, although other animals can also benefit from this therapy.
It is estimated that more than 80% of the animals to which acupuncture is applied tolerate it and show positive effects. In any case it should be taken as a complement, not a substitute, of conventional veterinary treatments.
In Kikai we provide veterinary acupuncture services in Mallorca, moving throughout the island.
Painless therapy
As it is the insertion of extremely fine needles, much more than hypodermic needles (in the case of dogs, about 0.2mm thick) it is a virtually painless method, which only presents small punctures in the specific pints of animal acupuncture.
It can be applied both as a dry needle (exclusively the needle), as well as electro-acupuncture, laser puncture or moxibustion, oscillating the duration of sessions between 25 and 60 minutes.
When is veterinary acupuncture used?
Although the list of conditions is broader, the most common use is in mobility problems, arthritis, hip dysplasias or degenerative joint diseases, although it can also be used as a supplement in behavioral disorders.
It should be noted that it is not a magic solution, and that several sessions and a lot of patience are usually necessary, so it is highly recommended to follow the guidelines of your trusted veterinarian as well.
